Panel discussion
Education for all: inclusive OFDL for indigenous communities
September 25, 2023 at 15:00 - 16:15 UTC+2
Register for the eventJoin ICDE and Flexible Education Norway (FuN) for an interactive panel discussion, exploring how to create incentives for high-quality open, flexible, and inclusive education that contributes to preserving indigenous languages and culture.
Indigenous peoples today are arguably among the most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups of people in the world. Globally, 47% of all indigenous peoples in employment have no education, compared to 17% of their non-indigenous counterparts. This gap is even wider for women.
This ICDE and FuN joint event highlights the recognition the international community is now providing to this group of peoples, and the need for special measures to protect rights and maintain distinct cultures and ways of life. Open, Flexible and Distance Learning (OFDL) holds a significant role in the support of these challenges. Increased collaboration on national, regional, and international levels is needed to reduce the barriers to education, knowledge, and skills.
Join the event to hear the global perspective from UNESCO and regional views from both Norway and Canada.
The session will be hosted on Zoom, and will include presentations of priorities and challenges from voices in the field, as well as an interactive Q&A session.
