Standing Conference of Presidents 2010

SCOP 2010 will be held 14-15 September on the Unisa Campus in Pretoria, South Africa. The theme will be Bridging the Developmental Gap, and the meeting will be preceded by a Policy Forum on 13 September.


SCOP 2010 will bring in the outcomes of the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education and examine issues of technology and the role of ODL in a developmental paradigm. It aims at answering the following questions:

  • What is the social responsibility of higher education institutions to promote knowledge transfer towards developing countries?

  • What practical possibilities are there for this?

  • How can we promote greater ‘brain circulation’ so that the benefits of enhanced capacities in one context can be recruited to the benefit of less developed contexts?
